Manage your farm ..... for the future !

OUR HISTORY

I became interested in the land ( particularly merino sheep ) in my early 20's. Gained my Advanced Certificate after two years study at Agriculture College with my least favourite subject being ...you guessed it ...agronomy.

Within 4 years I was managing farms, honing my skills & implementing "world's best practice" in all that we did. We produce high quality, fertile sheep, cattle and goats. We identified soil fertility as the limiting factor to continuing productivity gains.

To this end I undertook a soils and pastures course through a regional technical college. I learned much during this course, not least of which was I needed to become a soil scientist in order to understand how the soil works. I had neither the time nor the funds to stop work to attend university for 4 years.

A comment made by a complete stranger triggered a thought process
that has led us to this point & what we say now cannot be overstated
.

" Growing strong, vigorous pasture is NOT about science …….it NEVER was !
"

A farm accident resulted in a serious back injury which meant we could no longer manage farms. As one door closes another one opens. Starting our own business enabled us to put theory into practice on many varied farms and soil types. What we thought we could do, we have now proven we can do. Our 'System' works regardless of soil type.

We have implemented conventional practices for 20 years, during which time we have seen input costs rise incredibly.

SustainableAgricultureSystems started trials more than 10 yrs ago and have now implemented our own natural ' System ' on many farms for 5 years ..... [ 4 of which were drought ]. Input costs are negligible and we fully utilize existing infrastructure.
